Pickled Pears

Pears in sweetened spiced vinegar. An accompaniment for meats.

Pickled Pears

Wash the pears good and clean and put 3 cloves in each one. Boil in the following syrup :

1 quart vinegar
1 tsp. each of cloves, cinnamon and allspice
6 cups brown sugar

Boil the vinegar and sugar together, skim, then add the spices. Cook the pears in this syrup until tender. Put away in a jar.
