Hiring Fair Cake

Cakes
Historic

Domestic servants and farm labourers were formerly employed only on a one-year contract, so Hiring Fairs were held in spring or autumn for prospective employees and employers to meet. Grand cakes were customarily made for such events, but there is no definitive receipt.
