'Acetaria: A Discourse of Sallets' by John Evelyn (Evelyn 1699) has; "A Goodly Sallet - Lettuce, Leeks, Mint, Rocket, Colewort-Tops, with Oyl and Eggs, and such an Hotch-Pot"
