Presumably creamed beans. Known from 16th century sources including in 'A Dyetary of Health', by Andrew Borde; "Beene-butter is used moche in Lent in dyvers countres. It is good for plowmen to fyl the paunch,", but the trouble with beans, then as now is that, "it doth ingender grose humours; it doth replete a man with ventosyte."
